• Here are my notes about this document:
  • Simon's first wife was Rose Weiss (the older sister of Julia, Regina, Bertha, and Jacob). After Rose died, her sister Bertha married Rose's widower, Simon.
  • So two of the children listed here (Helen and Arthur) were Rose's -- they were Bertha's stepchildren and were also her niece and nephew.
  • Presumably the youngest child (Rose) was Bertha's child (named after the child's aunt Rose).
  • According to Gladys (Schwartz) Kaminsky's 1980 family tree, Simon had three children with Rose (Helen, Bela, and Arthur), and two children with Bertha (Rose and Daniel). Bela is not listed here, so perhaps she died in childhood?
  • The address is 58 East 110 St., Manhattan. According to Wikipedia, "110th Street [...] is commonly known as the boundary between Harlem and Central Park. See this address today in Google Maps.
  • Although the modern transcription says that Jacob is married and has been so for 26 years, this was a mistake on the form, and in fact the census taker must have realized it was a mistake, as the "M" and "26" have been crossed out on the form.
  • For year of immigration it says 1907 for Simon, Bertha, and the children, and the place of birth for the children is given as Hungary; probably this is all an error? i.e., probably Simon and Bertha immigrated earlier, separately, and the children were born in the U.S.
  • For "Occupation and industry" it says: Simon: Tailor, Shop; Bertha: Saleslady, Tailor Store; Jacob: Printer, Printing Shop.
