• This 1925 New York State census form shows Joseph Black, age 10, living on the Lower East Side with his mother (Anna), father (Samuel), and grandmother (Sarah Finkelstein).

• The address is 246 East Houston, as in the previous census. See 246 East Houston today in Google Maps.
• The occupations are given as: Samuel: Neckwear, Anna: Housewife, Joseph: School, Sarah: Housewife.
• Column 9, Citizenship, appears to say that Samuel is a citizen ("Cit") but Anna and her mother Sarah are not ("Alien"). Of course Joseph is a citizen; for him it says "C". Under a law passed Sept. 22, 1922, women no longer automatically got U.S. citizen when their husband acquired it. (See an interesting article about women and naturalization.) So if this census record is correct, presumably Samuel had become a citizen quite recently.
• The census taker incorrectly recorded Anna's relationship to the Head of the family as "'Mother" (it should be "Wife") and incorrectly recorded her age as "20" (obviously impossible, since she had a 10-year-old son) -- she must have been in her early '30s.
